The Prewash Scalp & Hair Oiling Routine You Need to Transform Your Hair

The Prewash Scalp & Hair Oiling Routine You Need to Transform Your Hair

Transforming your hair health doesn’t take place overnight, but with a consistent haircare routine and prioritising our daily hair habits, as well as maintaining a well-balanced diet, you can support your healthiest scalp and hair results. One element of enhancing your scalp and hair health is regular prewash oiling treatments. When using the right oils and committing to consistent oil treatments, you can soothe your scalp, reduce inflammation, encourage hair growth, as well as strengthen your hair, increase shine, condition.

Before investing in and committing to my hair health several years ago, I (Isabella, Sozo Australia’s founder) experienced thin, limp, and unhealthy hair. Despite using ‘salon quality’ haircare products, my hair health suffered and was significantly impacted when my body experienced high levels of stress which was caused by being extremely unwell in the months before I was eventually diagnosed with type one diabetes. As a result, I experienced sudden hair loss, which I later discovered is known as telogen effluvium. When my already thin hair became extremely limp, spiny, unhealthy, and difficult to style, I discovered the haircare products I was using were not supporting my healthiest scalp and hair, and I couldn’t find genuinely all-natural haircare that met my scalp and hair health needs. After months of struggling, I started the journey of formulating and launching our Sozo Hair Health range and worked towards supporting my healthiest scalp and hair. Now, by using the best all-natural haircare products consistently, prioritising my physical health and practicing good hair habits, I have been able to transform my hair health.

Scalp and hair oiling treatments is one essential part of the haircare routine that has transformed my hair, so let’s break down the exact steps you can follow in your prewash oiling routine to support your best results.

1. Brush your hair to detangle knots

Before applying oil, brushing out and detangling any knots in your hair is the first step in your hair oiling routine. Whether we’re brushing wet hair after washing or dry hair in between washes, we must always be gentle to avoid unnecessary hair breakage and damage. Brushing your ends first in small sections before working your way to your roots is an effective and important method for detangling without hair breakage.

2. Massage your scalp

Next, it’s time to massage your scalp. Massaging your scalp, specifically focusing on moving the skin of your scalp, is known to help encourage blood flow to your hair follicles to support healthy hair growth. Hair oiling treatments are often used to encourage hair growth, and taking the time to massage your scalp with your hands is a great and easy way to increase circulation. It is known that the blood vessels on our scalp feed the hair follicles, which then supports healthy hair, making regular scalp massages so important.

3. Apply oil to both your scalp and hair

Oil treatments are known to target and benefit both our scalp and hair health, especially when using the right oils. So, be sure to apply your hair oil treatment generously to cover all parts of your scalp and hair. There is an endless list of possible oils you can apply to both your scalp and hair. But with so many options, it can easily become confusing and time consuming when trying to correctly apply and experience the benefits of a range of different oils or hair treatments that are each known to provide specific benefits.

Many oils need to be diluted and applied correctly in order for you to experience your best results. So, to reduce the need for several different hair oils or products, we have formulated our Sozo Scalp & Hair Health Serum with a range of carefully and intentionally selected natural oils and extracts that are proven to enhance both your scalp and hair health so you can simplify your hair oiling routine while maximising your hair health results. Each ingredient has been scientifically proven and formulated within this one product to provide a range of benefits, including soothing and nourishing your scalp, encouraging hair growth, conditioning and strengthening your hair, as well as increasing shine. Some of the feature ingredients found inside our Scalp & Hair Health Serum are rosemary oil, beetroot extract, macadamia seed extract, argan oil and more.

4. Gently massage the oil into your scalp

Once again, to stimulate your scalp, you can take a few extra minutes to massage your scalp now you have applied your hair serum. Massaging the scalp, using your hands to move and massage your scalp (not your hair strands) is particularly important if you are wanting to encourage healthy hair growth for all the reasons we’ve already discussed.

5. Allow the oil to absorb

Experiencing your very best results from scalp and hair oiling treatments also involves allowing the oil to properly absorb before washing it off. You should aim to leave your hair oil treatment in for at least 30 minutes or up to a couple of hours. Then when it is time to wash, you can follow your normal hair washing routine. Don’t forget that double shampooing and using a generous

amount of shampoo, especially when using a product like our all-natural Sozo Hair Health Shampoo, are very effective for thoroughly cleaning your scalp and removing any oil residue.

Transforming your hair with regular oiling treatments

The steps within this scalp and hair oiling routine may seem basic or simple, but when you’re using the right type of oil and when you commit to consistent and regular treatments, you can experience a healthier and more conditioned scalp, as well as strong, shiny, healthy hair. Like any haircare product or habit, we cannot expect a complete hair transformation overnight, which is why consistency is so important. Hair health and achieving your truly healthiest scalp and hair is a continuous journey, so we must focus on the long-term results, changes and improvements that take place from consistently using the best natural haircare products.

Regular scalp and hair oiling has helped me to achieve smooth and shiny hair like I have never experienced before launching our Sozo Hair Health range. Plus, my ends are thick and healthy which is the result of supporting strong hair and limiting breakage. The rate at which my hair grows, as well as all the visible new hair growth on my scalp, are both incredible. I, personally, enjoy having and styling short to mid length hair, so I do get it cut at least every six to seven weeks to maintain this length, but hair oiling allows me to experience fast growing, healthy hair.

If regular oil treatments are not currently a part of your haircare routine but you’re wanting to support strong, healthy and shiny hair, take some time to implement a consistent oiling routine. We can’t expect hair oiling alone to fix all our hair problems. But, alongside investing in and committing to a complete all-natural haircare routine, hair oiling is one vital hair habit that ensures both your scalp and hair are receiving the proper nourishment they need to thrive for your best results, not just in the short term but also for many years to come.
